Benson Biker Rodeo
The 15th Annual Biker Rodeo sponsored by the Southern Arizona Harley Riders MC (SAHR), was held the 3rd weekend in October at the Arena Bar in Benson. What can I say, if you like bikes, bars, camping, bike games, music, food, poker runs and wet t-shirts, you should have been there.
It's true that bikers don't need a reason to get out and ride and have some fun. But throw in a good cause, and that makes it all the sweeter. This year's rodeo was dedicated to the memory of lost SAHR sister Janee Thorn Lohse who passed on after a long, hard fought battle. Ride free Janee! Her parents, Leonard and Lavon, both SAHR members were on hand and helped organize the event along with club president "Prez Fred."
There was a great group of vendors. We saw some good old friends and met some cool new ones. There was plenty of good food for any biker's taste. Did someone say "drink?" Well what can I say about the Arena Bar? A whole bunch. The place is big enough to handle any size crowd and the staff is fast and friendly. They have a huge picture window the entire length of the bar, with a complete view of all of the rodeo games in the arena. Or if you wanted, you could go outside and cheer, or fall from the stands. We had the Slow Race, Barrel Race, Road Kill, and the traditional Hot Dog on a String, along with a couple of pretty good wipe outs in the deep arena dirt.
If you couldn't make it this year, make sure you get down there next year for the two day party. It's a nice ride away from the big city where there's plenty of open roads.
