The great Chiricahua Apache Chief ruled these mountains 150 years ago, as he fought the U.S. Cavalry. He was never captured and is said to be buried in these mountains. The imagination runs wild riding in this area, while thinking of who rode on these sacred grounds and what happened on the very spot you are in.

This monument was dedicated to that historic event which in effect ended the conflict with the Apaches in the southwest.
